Water and Beach Activities

Here are a few of the many activities in Guanacaste that you can book for your vacation.

Tanning

Costa Rica’s brightest, whitest sand is at Flamingo Beach, and it is great for tanning.

Swimming

Here are a few of the many activities in Guanacaste that you can book for your vacation.

Surfing

Grande and nearby Tamarindo/Langosta are popular surfing spots, as well as Playa Avellanas and Playa Negra. Playa Naranjo, home of Witches Rock, is Costa Rica surfing at its best.

Horseback Riding

Horseback Riding on the beach or along trails is available.

Sunset and Day Cruises

Sunset and day cruises are also a nice option to enjoy the ocean. The Pacific Soul Catamaran is available for day or overnight trips.

Rivers and Estuary Tours

Ride a river raft on the Coricibi, a bigger boat on the Tempisque River or Tamarindo Mangroves and Estuary cruises. Zip Line tours are also available.

Diving and Snorkeling

Scuba diving, snorkeling tours, and PADI courses. Go underwater for some of the top diving and snorkeling in Central America. A 60-80 foot dive at Catalina Island, directly off Flamingo, can yield visions of white-tipped sharks, giant manta rays, hammerhead sharks and sailfish. The diving is excellent any time of year. Several dive shops serve Tamarindo and Flamingo where you can find a full line of rental gear for water activities including great Scuba Diving.

Fishing

Offshore billfishing is nearly a year-round. Inshore, you can hook up with Roosterfish for a real battle. April-November offers the best all around deep sea fishing in the area, though October is often too rainy for much action. Anglers usually raise the most billfish in July, when the yellowfin tuna catch also takes off. 

National Parks Activities in Guanacaste

Guanacaste boasts more National Parks than any other province in the country. From the Pacific coast are you can reach Guanacaste, Rincón de la Vieja, Palo Verde, Barra Honda, Santa Rosa National Park, Arenal, and Las Baulas National Marine Park. These parks offer a nature lovers paradise with hiking and wildlife viewing as part of the experience.

Golf

You have a choice of two golf courses in the Guanacaste area.

The 18-hole Garra De León Championship Golf Course at the Westin Playa Conchal property is a magnificent 6,956 yard coastal golf course. The course was designed by legendary golf course architect and designer Robert Trent Jones II. Each hole was incorporated into the rhythm of the native tropical landscape and offering majestic vistas of the Pacific Ocean.

The golf course at Hacienda Pinilla is a a 7,300-yard, par 72 Mike Young Golf Course. Mike Young was responsible for designing some of the finest courses in the United States, South America, Israel and India.
